Philip Glass was born on 31st January 1937. He is an American composer with an estimated net worth of $35 million.

Philip is one of the most famous and successful music composers of the 20th century. He has produced musical theatre, operas, solos, ten concertos, nine symphonies, chamber music and film scores. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland. When he was 15 years, he attended the University of Chicago. This is where he first made his composition. He passed out from the Julliard School, and later studied under Nadia Boulanger in Paris.

Glass has written works for the musical group, the Philip Glass Ensemble, which he founded. Three of his film scores have been nominated for the Academy Awards. In the late 1980s, Glass worked on two highly prestigious opera commissions. The opera was based on the life of Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama. In the year 1987, he co-founded the Tibet House with the professor of Columbia University, Robert Thurman, and the actor Richard Gere.

Glass has four children and one granddaughter from his first wife. His second wife was Luba Burtyk – the marriage was dissolved. His third wife, the artist Candy Jernigan died of liver cancer when she was 39 years of age. He has two children from his fourth wife. Glass is a vegetarian, and he lives in New York. He was romantically involved with Wendy Sutter in the year 2008. Glass said in an interview that his favorite composer is Franz Schubert.
