Ian’s influence was the band Kiss, which he witnessed live at Madison Square Garden in 1997. He has been very vocal about his love for the band. He has appeared in one Gene Simmons Family Jewels episode and talked about the impact of the band to his life. His other influences included British heavy metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Judas Priest as well as the hardcore punk and metallic music called NYC hardcore. From a very young age, he knew that he could be a famous hard rock/heavy metal star.

Scott Ian is a founding member of Anthrax, as well as Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica. He is also the guitarist of the band, and also did a crossover with rap legends Public Enemy in 1991 which led to the rap/rock genre. He was also responsible for the existence of bands such as Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, and Linkin Park.

Ian is married to Pearl Aday, the daughter of legendary rock singer Meat Loaf and Leslie Aday. Their first child is Revel Young Ian, who was born on June 19, 2011. Ian is the co-owner of a hard rock bar called Dead Man’s Hand in Las Vegas along with Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains.
