About Neal Joseph Schon

Neal is the only permanent member of Journey. He has participated in every albums and tours till now. He was born on 27th February, 1954 at Tinker AFB (Air Force Base), Oklahoma. Neal was born into a musical family – his father Mathew Schon was himself an accomplished musician and mother Barbara Schon was a band singer. At an early age of 5, Neal picked up his first guitar.

Being a quick learner, he joined Santana at the age of 15. Schon went to the Aragon high school. He was famously offered by Eric Clapton to join Derek and The Dominos but he went on to join Santana for their album Santana III. He also played for Azteca, briefly. In 1973, he formed the band, Journey. He released five solo albums and fourteen studio albums with the band. Schon also collaborated with keyboardist Jan Hammer; Sammy Hagar and Paul Rodgers on short-term projects.

Schon started with an acoustic Stella guitar followed by Gibson ES-335. Presently he is endorsing Gibson guitars. Later in 2008, he started using Xotic guitars. Schon had been married four times - first in 1976 with Tena Austin, second with Beth Buckley in 1987, for the third time in 1993 with Dina Gioeli and the fourth with Amber Kozan in 2001, which ended in 2008. In October 2012, he got engaged to Michaele Salahi.
