Malcolm Young started his journey as a musician when he joined the New South Wales-based band, The Velvet Underground. They covered songs from T-Rex and Rolling Stones. Along with his younger brother, Angus, they formed AC/DC in November 1973. The following year, they started a national tour with singer Dave Evans.

He relocated with the band in United Kingdom in 1976. Young has been in the music industry for 41 years. After the death of their lead singer Bon Scott in 1980, they recorded the biggest selling album, Back in Black. Since then, he and the guys from AC/DC released 17 studio albums, three ARIA awards, and one Grammy Awards.

In April 2014, he became seriously ill and unable to perform for the band. Young was diagnosed with dementia and early stage of lung cancer.
