Haim Saban is an Israeli-American television and media proprietor who has an estimated net worth of $2.9 billion. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt on October 15, 1944. In 1956, Haim, along with his family, and much of the Egyptian Jewish community, fled to Israel as a result of the Suez War. Israeli forces invaded Egypt in collusion with Britain and France.
After almost going bankrupt in 1975, Saban moved to Paris, France. Later, in 1983, he moved again to Los Angeles. The Egyptian born billionaire and war survivor made his billions in television and media despite not attending college.
Before earning such amount of fortune, Haim Saban started out in the music industry in 1966 as a bass player and manager of the rock band The Lions of Judah (Ha'arayot), named after the Lion of Judah in Jewish Scripture. His music experience led to the launching of a record company with Shuki Levy. They became known for soundtrack composition for children's television programs. He then founded Saban Entertainment, which produces and distributes children's television programs in the US, including Power Rangers.
Haim Saban chairs Spanish language broadcaster Univision, which he bought in conjunction with private equity firms in 2007 for $13.7 billion. In October 2010, Saban settled a dispute with Mexican broadcaster Televisa and negotiated a deal in which Televisa bought a stake in Univision for $1.2 billion and agreed to provide the U.S. network with its popular programming. In March 2017, he was honored with the 2,605th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his achievements in television.
