Maynard James Keenan was born in 1964 in Ravenna, Ohio, USA. In his early life, he joined the army but later left to get into music. Before joining Tool which made him rise to fame, he had been performing at Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty which gave him an excellent base for his music career. After teaming up with Adam Jones, Danny Carey and Paul D’Amour to form Tool Band back in 1990, they made several releases which ranked at gold and platinum categories.
Apart from Tool, Keenan features in another band called “A Perfect Circle”. He has also been performing standup comedies and owns Merkin Vineyards which is associated with Caduceus Cellars winery.
Currently, he is married to Lei Li with whom he has a daughter named Lei Li Agostina Maria. He also has a son from a previous relationship.
