Novoselic was born May 16, 1965 in Compton, California. As a young adult, he found himself very intrigued by music, enjoying bands such as Led Zeppelin, Devo, Black Sabbath, Van Halen. As a teenager Novoselic's brother introduced him to Kurt Cobain and the two eventually started their own band called Nirvana. Novoselic was the bassist for the band, which did endure great success during its time. The band ended in 1994 when band member Cobain died due to a drug overdose. Following the death of band mate and best friend, Novoselic was reluctant to step out into the spotlight, he had difficulty dealing with the death of a person he had spent more than a decade with daily.
Since the end of the world famous band Nirvana, Novoselic has found great interest in many other forms of entertainment. He has directed his own movie, worked along side other bands and has become politically involved, participating in the lobby against the erotic music bill in 1992. Novoselic continues to support political reform, focused on social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
