Kirk Douglas was born on the 9th of December 1916 in Amsterdam, New York to Bryna and Herschel Danielovitch both Jewish immigrants. In 1941 Douglas enlisted in the US Navy, but was discharged in 1944 due to injuries, and from there embarked on the road of radio and television commercials leading him to his acting opportunities. Douglas states that this is what paved the way for him to become an actor.

The success of his eight film, Champion, led him to believe that he must overcome shyness in order to fulfill his full potential and he subsequently went on to making his debut on Broadway in the play Three Sisters.

A Prosperous acting career followed with films such as Out of the Past (1947), Champion (1949), Ace in the Hole (1951), The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), Lust for Life (1956), Paths of Glory (1957), Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), The Vikings (1958), Spartacus (1960), Lonely Are the Brave (1962), Seven Days in May (1964), The Heroes of Telemark (1965), Saturn 3 (1980), Tough Guys (1986), and Greedy (1993).

He is the Father of Michael Douglas, who also turned out with a prosperous acting career in Hollywood.
