He was born on June 5th 1956. He is originally from Seattle, Washington. Kenny started playing saxophone when he was 10 years old – that was in 1966. He was trained under the local trumpeter Gerald Pfister. He used to practice in Grover Washington Jr. records. Buffet crampon alto was his first saxophone.

He was only 17 when he got himself a job as a sideman to Barry White’s orchestra. Kenny was studying accounts at the University of Washington, but he continued to play professionally too. He was with the band Cold, Bold and Together. Kenny eventually became a part of The Jeff Lorber Fusion. He has released many solo albums with many artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Whitney Houston, Peabo Bryson, Toni Braxton and Celine Dion.

Kenny’s name entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for playing the longest note on saxophone ever in 1997. At the J&R Music studio he used circular breathing and played an E-flat for 45 minutes. In April 1997, his mixes went to #1 on the Billboard charts. He plays Selmer Mark VI Soprano, Alto and Tenor saxophones. Kenny G has also created a line up of saxophones called Kenny G Saxophones.
