Rock bass player Jason Curtis Newsted has an estimated net worth of $40 million which accumulated from his successful career. He has worked with some of the biggest names in rock music. A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, he first rose to prominence after joining the band Metallica in 1986 following the death of their previous bass player, Cliff Burton. He played on some of their biggest selling recordings, and left them over a difference of opinion in 2001.
Since then, he has played with his side project, Echobrain. He had short stints with Ozzy Osbourne and Voivod and continues to record and tour, as well as setting up Chophouse Records, a California-based label and recording studio before recently forming another new band simply known this time as Newsted.
Following a shoulder injury in 2006, he was temporarily unable to play music. He then turned to art in order to express himself. He produced many highly original works, some of which were shown at San Francisco's Michaela Art gallery in 2010. Newsted also makes time for more philanthropic work, sitting on the board of the charity, Little Kids Rock, which provides free instruments to under-privileged children.
