At the age of 26, Gareth moved from Southampton and started residing in Manchester. This is where he has his own studio and runs a nightclub. Gareth Emery has his own record label too in the name of Garuda.
However in the mid-nineties, Gareth was more interested in other genres. He played guitar in a punk-band and trained in piano and jazz. He has completed his degree in Politics from the University of Warwick. Gareth supports Southampton Football Club.
Emery has his own unique style which he describes as a combination of trance, house and progressive forms. He is often categorised as a trance DJ, a tag which he prefers to ignore as he believes in playing good music regardless of the genre.
In 2002, Emery’s debut release was white label remix of The Shrink's classic “Nervous Breakdown” aired on a live broadcast of the BBC Radio 1. Nervous Breakdown was chosen by Nutrition for an official release and later used on a number of compilations.
