About Lloyd Kaufman
Lloyd Kaufman is an American film director, screenwriter and producer.
Kaufman produced the low-budget film Rappaccini, which was directed by his college friend Robert Edelstein.
He directed his first feature film, The Girl Who Returned, an experimental black and white film. After he graduated from Yale, he worked for Cannon Films.
He collaborated with John G. Avildsen, making low-budget films like Joe and Cry Uncle! During this period, Kaufman also directed and starred in his second feature film, The Battle of Love’s Return.
He also served as executive in charge of locations for Saturday Night Fever, and he was the one who choose 2001 Odyssey as the nightclub in the film.
Kaufman and his business partner Michael Herz founded Troma Entertainment in 1974. They began producing and distributing independent action and comedy films. In 1985, Troma made the comic superhero film The Toxic Avenger. The film was successful, but the subsequent sequels were not.
