Daniels began his career as a casting director and manager, working on projects like Under the Cherry Moon and Purple Rain.
His first directorial debut came in 2006, when he directed Shadowboxer. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film led to his nomination for Best New Director at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
He then produced the 2008 film Tennessee. The film was written by Russell Schaumberg and directed by Rhinoceros Eyes' Aaron Woodley.
