F. Gary Gray is an American film and music video director known for his works on projects such as The Italian Job remake, Set It Off, The Negotiator and Friday.
Gary Gray had his directorial debut in 1992 with the music video for “It Was a Good Day” by Ice Cube. This eventually led him to work on the music videos for other artists such as Outkast, Queen Latifah, Dr. Dre and Cypress Hill. He went on to direct several other music videos which include Whitney Houston’s “I Believe In You And Me”, TLC’s “Diggin’ On You” and “Waterfalls”, R. Kelly’s “If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time”, Jay-Z’s “Show Me What You Got”, and Rick Ross’ “Super High”.
The remake of The Italian Job, for which he served as director, earned more than $10 million in the domestic box office. It won him the Best Director Award during the 2004 Black American Film Festival. He has also directed films such as Ryan Caulfield: Year One (1999), A Man Apart (2003), Be Cool (2005) and Law Abiding Citizen (2009).
