David Reiss received a boost when Kate Middleton chose one of his dresses for her engagement photos.
Reiss opened his first eponymous boutique in 1971, then launched his own-label menswear company in 1992. He even had different approaches to sell his London-based high-street fashion chain before the credit crunch for $198.66 million. However, despite opening his first store in China, the collapse in world economic activity in late 2008 hit hard. Sunday Times Rich List valued the business, which should report a $16.82 million profit in 2010-11, at $158.93 million, adding $6.62 million to the founder's fortune for past dividends and other assets.
