American reggae artist Damian Marley has an estimated net worth of $20 million. He is best recognized as the son of the artist Bob Marley who died when Damian was years of age.
Also known as Gong Zilla, Damian Robert Nesta "Jr. Gong" Marley was born on July 21, 1978 in Kingston, Jamaica. At age 13, Damian Marley already started his career as a reggae artist. He started out with the musical group Shephards. When the group disbanded, Marley pursued his own solo career.
In 1996, he released Mr. Marley, his debut album. Five years later, his second album titled Halfway Tree was introduced into the market. The album stayed on the reggae album charts for 158 weeks. Also, it won him the Best Reggae Album award at the 2002 Grammy Awards.
In 2005, Welcome to Jamrock was released. The album was selected by the Rolling Stone as one of its Top 100 Songs of the Decade. Furthermore, it peaked at #55 on US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and #13 on UK Singles Chart. The album also won him the Best Reggae Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards. A certified gold record holder, the album sold more than 86,000 copies during its first week of release.
