Carlos Mencia is an American comedian, writer and actor who has an estimated net worth of $20 million. He was born Ned Arnel Mencia on October 22, 1967 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He began his career as a standup comedian in Los Angeles after he agreed to change his name from Ned to Carlos upon the suggestion of Mitzi Shore, owner of The Comedy Store, in order to appeal to the Mexican audiences. This lead to his appearances on The Arsenio Hall Show and Buscando Estrellas, where he was hailed as the "International Comedy Grand Champion." He was later chosen in 1994 to host HBO's latino comedy showcase Loco Slam.

Mencia's style of comedy is in most cases political, bringing into light issues of culture, race criminal justice, and social class. He is known to many as the host of Mind of Mencia, a comedy central show. This show started showing in March 2005 and was renewed for a second season in the spring of 2006. It became the second highest comedy central program after South Park. It was renewed for a third season and later canceled in 2008.

Carlos Mencia also made some appearances on Arsenio Hall show and Buscando Estrellas where he was crowned the “International comedy grand champion”. In 2009, he starred in Bud lights commercial, Super Bowl XLI and in 2011 went on a standup comedy tour that ended in Las Vegas in September of 2011.
