Barbara Windsor is an English actress.

Barbara Windsor landed her first film role in The Belles of St Trinian's in 1954. She joined Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East.

She appeared in several stage productions, such as Fings Ain't Wot They Used to Be and Littlewood's 1963 film Sparrers Can't Sing, for which she earned a BAFTA nomination for Best British Film Actress.

She landed a role in the 1964 comedy film Crooks in Cloisters, 1968's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and in the sitcoms The Rag Trade and Wild, Wild Women.

In 1980, Windsor played the role of Saucy Nancy on the second series of the ITV children's show Worzel Gummidge.

She got a role in the Carry On...  series, beginning with Carry On Spying in 1964. Her last Carry On... role was in Carry On Dick in 1974.

She spent time on Broadway in the Theatre Workshop's Oh, What a Lovely War! She received a 1965 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

Windsor played the role of music hall legend Marie Lloyd in the musical-biopic Sing A Rude Song. In 1975, she toured the UK, New Zealand, and South Africa in her own show, Carry On Barbara!

Windsor joined EastEnders in 1994, taking over the role of Peggy Mitchell. She scored the Best Actress award at the British Soap Awards in 1999 and a Lifetime Achievement award from the same source in 2009

She quit her role as Peggy Mitchell in 2009, but returned for the September 20, 2013 episode.

Barbara Ann Deeks was born on August 6, 1937 in Shoreditch, London. She is married to Scott Mitchell.
