A well recognized American writer, R.L. Stine, or Robert Lawrence Stine in real life, is known for his horror fiction novels which caught the attention of millions worldwide. He is known to author books titled The Nightmare Room, Goosebumps, Mostly Ghostly, Rotten School, and Fear Street. As of 2012, R.L. Stine’s books have already sold more than 400 million copies worldwide. Apart from writing a dozen of joke books, R.L. Stine also authored 2 Hark gamebooks and Space Cadets trilogy.
Born to Jewish parents, R.L. Stine started joke and story books at age 9. He then attended the The Ohio State University where he graduated with Bachelor of Arts degree in English. After moving to New York to pursue his writing career, Stine started writing humor books for children under the pen name Jovial Bob Stine.
Subsequently, he began writing horror novels, and his first novel published was titled Blind Date (1986). His other novels include Beach House, The Girlfriend, Hit and Run, and The Babysitter.
R.L. Stine is married to his wife Jane Waldhorn. The couple has one son together named Matthew.
