Best-selling author Janet Evanovich has an estimated net worth of $120 million, which she has earned from writing dozens of award-winning novels. Born Janet Schneider on April 22, 1943 in South River, New Jersey, Evanovich began writing romance novels in the 1980s, eventually shifting genres to focus more on the suspenseful side of reading.
Though she began her writing career under the pen name Steffie Hall with short contemporary romance novels, Evanovich shot to stardom and fame with her Stephanie Plum series. Her Plum character is a former lingerie buyer from Trenton, New Jersey, who becomes a bounty hunter to make ends meet after losing her job. Each of her 19 Stephanie Plum novels made it to the top of many best-sellers lists, including the The New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and Amazon bestseller lists. Her last seventeen Plums debut at #1 on the NY Times Best Sellers list and eleven of them have hit #1 on USA Today Best-Selling Books list. Her books have sold more than two hundred million copies in print worldwide while being translated into over 40 languages.
Janet Evanovich began her career as a writer in her 30s when she made the decision to become a stay-at-home mom and began writing novels on the side. It wasn’t until 1987, however, that her first novel was published. Evanovich married her husband in 1964. The couple has a son and a daughter, both of whom work for Evanovich’s company. She and her husband split their time between their New Hampshire and Florida homes.
