Elizabeth Gilbert is an American novelist who has earned a net worth of $25 million. Born Elizabeth M. Gilbert on July 18, 1969 in Waterbury, Connecticut, she grew up in a family that read a great deal. She took up political science at New York University, where she also continuously worked on her short stories. She then spent many years traveling around the country, working in various bars and diners to help her gain inspiration for her stories.

Gilbert's first book was called the Pilgrims, which became a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award. She also became a journalist in a number of publications such as GQ, Spin and The New York Times Magazine. Later on, the article she wrote for GQ about her experiences as a bartender became the basis of the film Coyote Ugly.

In 2006, her career shoot up through the publication of her book "Eat Pray Love" which talks about her triumphs and struggles around the world after going through a devastating divorce. The book was translated in over 30 languages and became an international phenomenon. Its sequel called Committed, which came out in 2010 immediately topped the New York Times bestseller list. She's currently residing at New Jersey, and is expected to continue writing more bestsellers.
