Ben Carson is a retired American neurosurgeon, author and philanthropist with an estimated net worth of $26 million.

Ben Carson attended Southwestern High School in Detroit. He actively participated in the JROTC and got an offer to join the West Point but he chose to turn it down. He pursued his college studies at Yale University where he took Psychology. He received his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his residency in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland.

He became successful in his medical career. Carson was a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics. At age 33, he was the youngest major division director of pediatrics neurosurgery. Also, he was the co-director of the hospital's Craniofacial Center.

Carson specialized in traumatic brain injuries, achondroplasia, and neurological disorders, among others. One of his successful medical procedure he did when he separated conjoined twins in 1987. He also served on the boards of prestigious companies such as Costco, Kellogg Company, and Academy of Achievement.

He is also one of the best-selling authors. Among his published include Gifted Hands, The Big Picture, Think Big, Take the Risk: Learning to Identify, and Choose, and Live with Acceptable Risk. On May 3, 2015, Carson confirmed his candidacy for President during an interview for a local television station in Ohio. The following day, he officially announced that he will run for the Republican nomination in the 2016 Presidential election.
