In the 1970’s, Assante worked in two NBC soap operas. The two soap operas were “How to Survive a Marriage” and “The Doctors”. “The Lords of The Flatbush” was the first film that he appeared in. He caught people’s eye in the movie “Private Benjamin” where he acted as a handsome Frenchman who falls in love with a U.S. soldier. Some of the other noticeable roles played by him were in the movies “I, the Jury”, ”The Marrying Man” and “Hoffa”. He won a primetime Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a movie. He had played different roles, but his tough person look was the reason why he got roles to play as a sinister. Recently, he appeared with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in the movie “The American Gangster” that was released in 2007. He received a star on the Italian Walk of Fame in 2010 in Toronto.
Assante was born in New York City on 4th October 1949 and was raised in Cornwall. He is the son of Katherine and Armand Assante Sr. who were music teacher and painter by profession respectively.
His mother was Irish while his father was Italian. He was married to Karen McAm from 1982 to 1994. He has two daughters Anya and Alessandra.
