Alfre Woodard is an actress from the US who works on the television, stage, and movies. She was born on November 8th, 1952, in her native place, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Woodard’s net worth sums to $13 million.
Alfre has been performing as an actress for more than three decades now – since 1978. Over the years, her work has been highly acclaimed in many productions. Her performance in the movie “Cross Creek” got her a nomination at the Academy Awards (1983) for the Best Supporting Actress. Since then there was no looking back for her.
She became popular because of her well-crafted roles in movies like “Cross Creek” and “Passion Fish”. She received a Golden Globe nomination too for this movie. “The Winter’s Tale” was another landmark for her. Alfred Woodard has also done several stage shows like Map of the World, Drowning Crow and Me and Bessie. In 2013 Woodard was seen in a short film by Ava DuVernay “The Door”. Some other awards she has been nominated for or won include NAACP Image Award, Joe A. Callaway Award, Independent Spirit Awards, Women in Film Crystal Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards among others.
Woodard got married in 1983 to Roderick Spencer who was a writer and gave birth to two children named Mavis and Duncan. Woodard is the founder of “Artists for a New South Africa” and is also serving as a board member. As a social activist, she has extended her support to same-sex marriage. She plays an active role in the Democratic Party as well.
