Piper Lisa Perabo was born on October 31, 1976 in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Toms River, New Jersey. She attended high school at Toms River High School North and graduated summa cum laude from Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University in 1998 with a degree in theater. She also studied physics, poetry, and Latin in her final year.

Perabo started acting while she was in high school, appearing each year in the annual musical. After she graduated in 1977, Piper moved to New York and later became a cast in a short film called Single Spaced. After that, she had her first big role where she played as the girlfriend of a wannabe rapper in Whiteboyz in 1999. After a year, she was a cast in The Adventure of Rocky & Bullwinkle as Karen Sympathy, an FBI agent.

Perabo is best recognized for her roles in Coyote Ugly and her small role in 2003 as the oldest daughter in Cheaper by the Dozen. She also appeared in Lost and Delirious, The Prestige, Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Looper. In 2008, she began taking higher-profile projects, including The Heaven Project and South of the Boarder.

In 2009, Perabo starred on Broadway in Neil LaBute's Reasons To Be Pretty as Carly.
