Elizabeth Montgomery started her career with appearances in live television dramas and series, such as Studio One, Kraft Television Theater, Johnny Staccato, The Twilight Zone, The Eleventh Hour, Boris Karloff’s Thriller and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Her first television appearance came when she was given a role in her father’s series, Robert Montgomery Presents. Then, she appeared in her first film, The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell, in 1955.
In 1960, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her portrayal of southern prostitute Rusty Heller in an episode of The Untouchables.
Montgomery got noticed when she portrayed the role of Samantha Stephens on the ABC comedy series, Bewitched. The series aired for eight seasons, from 1964 to 1972, and remains popular through syndication and DVD releases. The show had been renewed for a ninth season to run from 1972 to 1973. She received five Emmy and four Golden Globe nominations for her role on Bewitched.
With the popularity of her role in Bewitched, Montgomery appeared in a series of Japanese television commercials for “Mother” chocolate biscuits and cookies by confectionery conglomerate Lotte Corporation in 1980-1983.

She has been married four times: with New York socialite Frederick Gallatin Cammann in 1954 (divorced a year later), actor Gig Young in 1956 (divorced in 1963), and writer-producer William Asher in 1963 (divorced in 1973), and in 1993, she married actor Robert Foxworth.. On May 18, 1995, she died at her Beverly Hills home eight weeks after she was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. She has three children from her marriage with Asher.
