She is really a star author. Danice has been a bestselling author according to the New York Times. Four of her popular non-fiction books namely, Kiss My Math, Math Doesn't Suck, Girls Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape, and Hot X: Algebra Exposed have made it to this list. Her books encourage middle-school and high-school girls to have confidence and succeed in mathematics.
McKellar's second book, “Kiss My Math” was released on August 5th 2008. The book's intented audience was girls in the 7th through the 9th grades. Her third book, “Hot X: Algebra Exposed” was published on August 3rd 2010. It was aimed at girls in the 8th to 10th grade, or even adults who want to learn algebra. Her fourth book “Girls Get Curves – Geometry Takes Shape”, shows her readers how to feel confident, get in the driver's seat, and master the core concepts of high school geometry. Three of Mackellar’s books have made it to the New York Times children's bestseller list as well.
Her mother is Mahalia, who is a homemaker. Her father Christopher is a real estate developer. Her family is a big mix of Western Europe – her mother's ancestry is Portuguese and her father's ancestry is Scottish, Irish, French, German and Dutch. Her sister is Crystal McKellar. Both the sisters gave priority to their education. As a result, Crystal became a corporate lawyer and Danica specialized in mathematics. Danica and Crystal also have two half-brothers, Chris Junior and Connor McKellar.
