Wilford was born in 27th September 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Brimley’s father was a real estate broker. Before debuting as an actor, he used to work in a ranch, as a wrangler, blacksmith, and a bodyguard of Howard Hughes.
In the 1960s, he started riding horses as an extra in Westerns, and was also working as a stunt man of Robert Duval. Later in 1970, he was cast in the famous television series The Waltons – Brimley appeared in several episodes from 1974 to 1977. Eventually he was cast in movies, and became famous for his roles in The Hotel New Hampshire, The Thing and Cocoon. He was also starred in Crossfire Trail (2001), a Turner Network Television production. Brimley’s performance in the 1980s TV drama Our House was notable. He also appeared in Absence of Malice and The Natural. Brimley was cast in Tender Mercies (1983) on the recommendation of actor Robert Duvall. Unlike his previous good guy roles, he appeared in the 1993 Tom Cruise starred film “The Firm” as a bad guy.
By 1979, he was diagnosed with diabetics and he soon started an awareness program for it. He was honoured by the American Diabetes Association in 2006 for this. Brimley enjoys playing poker and has tried his luck in the World Series of poker main event.
