He was born in Illinois. His mother was a housewife and his father was a dentist by profession. Before becoming an actor, he used to drive a linen truck. From the Illinois Wesleyan University, he got a degree in drama and thereafter he relocated to Rhodes Island. While studying in the University, Richard became a member of the social fraternity group called – the Phi Gamma Delta.
His fame and wealth comes from acting in theatre in 1974. His debut in films was with the movie “Feasting with Panther”.
