He started his career in the industry as a child actor. In the early 196os, he was a household name after appearing on the sitcom Dennis the Menace as Dennis Mitchell.

He appeared in a number of commercials for the show's sponsors, including Skippy peanut butter, Bosco Chocolate Milk, Best Foods mayonnaise, and Kelloggs Cereals. The show was aired for four seasons.

In its fourth season of airing, the show was cancelled. As a teenager, he appeared in the films Maya and  Zebra in the Kitchen.
