While he was a teenager, he began acting in American Theatre Wing before setting off his professional acting career in 1947. In 1982, he was mistakenly referred as dead by the weekly American magazine- "People". Nevertheless, taking with a good humour and posed for a photograph to be published in another magazine- Variety, to indicate erroneous issue published by the magazine- People. Vigoda started his married life in 1968, when he married Beatrice Schy. The couple had a daughter before Beatrice died in 1992. Besides acting, Vigoda used to play handball in his youth.
