About Andre the Giant

French professional wrestler and actor Andre the Giant has an estimated net worth of million. He earned his net worth as Fezzik the Giant in the classic movie The Princess Bride, as a one-time WWF Champion and as a one-time WWF World Tag Team Champion. Born André René Roussimoff on May 19, 1946 in Grenoble, France, his parents Boris and Marian were both of Bulgarian and Polish ancestry. As a child, he already displayed signs of gigantism. By age of 12, he already reached the height of 6’3” (190.5 cm) and weight of 240 lbs (110 kg). He was soon called The Eighth Wonder of the World due to his size.

At the age of 18, Andre moved to Paris and was taught the art of professional wrestling. By his early 20s, he already had wrestled in South Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, England, Scotland and most part of the non-Communist Europe. However, he had not found his fame this time. He came to North Africa at the age of 21 under the name of Jean Ferre and he became mildly popular in Canada. He soon met the New York based booker Vincent J. McMahon, who is often incorrectly referred to as Vincent McMahon Sr. He renamed Roussimoff as Andre the Giant.

Andre the Giant soon became a national sensation and a much-sought after wrestler. When he challenged Hulk Hogan for the WWF World’s Heavyweight Wrestling Championship of the World at WrestleMania III in 1987, he hadn’t lost any single match since 1971. His winning streak has ended when Hogan picked him up and body slammed him for the pin. In the world of World Wrestling Federation, now known as WWE, he was the first inaugural inductee into the WWF Hall of Fame.

Roussimoff has also participated in television, movies, and commercials. He made his acting debut playing a Sasquatch (Bigfoot) in the 1970s TV series The Six Million Dollar Man. He appeared in other TV shows such as The Greatest American Hero, B.J. and the Bear, The Fall Guy and the 1990s Zorro. He had an uncredited appearance in the 1984 film Conan the Destroyer. He also made an appearance in Micki + Maude. He had a cameo role in the comedy Trading Mom which was not released until a year after his death due to congestive heart failure.
