Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Sanya Richards, also known as Sanya Richards-Ross, moved to the US when she was twelve years old, and became an American citizen in 2002.
She began making a name for herself as a formidable track and field competitor while in high school, in addition to completing her high school career with a 4.0 GPA. She was also named National High School Female Athlete of the Year, USA Track and Field’s “Youth Athlete of the Year”, and Track and Field News “Women’s Prep Athlete of the Year”.
Since then, she was won numerous medals, including a team Gold in Beijing in the 4×400, an individual Bronze in the 400 meter relay, Gold medals at the 2003, 2007, 2009, and 2005 World Championships, a Silver at the 2005 World Championships, and an individual Gold and a team Silver at the 2012 World Indoor Championships. She will represent the US in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
