Marco Di Vaio started his career with Lazio. In 1994, he made his Serie A debut for the team. Eventually, he played for Serie B clubs like Verona and Bari. In 1997, he moved to Salernitana and became the top scorer for the team.

Upon leaving the team, he was bought by Parma and became the 2nd highest scorer for the league. Di Vaio loaned by Juventus in 2002 before he permanently signed up for the club. During his stay, he won a scudetto and reached the 2003 UEFA Champion League final.

Di Vaio had played with several clubs such as Valencia, AS Monaco, Genoa, and Bologna. In 2012, he joined in for Montreal Impact and became its Designated Player. He announced his retirement in 2014.
