Luis Figo joined the U.F.C. Os Pastilhas as a street footballer. Then, he moved to the Sporting Clube de Portugal at the age of 11. In 1990, he played for the Sporting CP. During his five-year stint with the team, he received the Under-21 Championship Golden Player and Portuguese Golden Ball award in 1994.
He transferred to Barcelona in 1995, after signing a contract with the Italian clubs Parma and Juventus which resulted him to be banned for two years. He played for the team with a total of 172 games, and 30 goals.
In 2000, Figo did his unexpected move from Barcelona to Real Madrid. While he was with the team, he won the Ballon d'Or award in 2000. Other accolades that he received include FIFA World Player of the Year and Golden Foot in 2001.
He left Real Madrid to join Internazionale. On May 31, 2009, Figo announced his retirement.
