Starting his football career with Bron Terraillon, a local football club, Karim Benzema set off to join Olympique Lyonnais, which was considered as the biggest football club in the city. Debuting in the 2004–05 season, impressed the audience by scoring 2004–05 season over 30 goals on Lyon’s seventh straight league title. His incredibly impressive performance led him to be named as the Ligue 1 Player of the Year by the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP). In July 2009, he was signed by Real Madrid to a six-year contract. He earned a greater deal of prominence after scoring 32 goals which helped the team won the 2011 Copa del Rey, as well as the La Liga 2011–12 edition. With this performance, he became a recipient of the French Player of the Year award.
