Starting his football career with Bolton Wanderers, Lee joined Manchester City and made 248 appearances, scoring 112 goals. The 67-year-old also played 27 times for England. As a teenager at Bolton, Lee topped up his income by driving an old brewery lorry to collect wastepaper. He spotted a market for soft toilet tissue and ploughed his earnings from football into his business, FH Lee, which he sold in 1984 for £8.35m. He returned to City and sold his stake in the club in 2007, making £6m.
