Former professional football player and businessman, Dave Whelan has a net worth of $210 million as of May 2012, according to the Sunday Times UK Rich List. He played for Blackburn Rovers and Crewe Alexandra and currently owns Wigan Athletic. His career ended when he broke his leg while playing for Blackburn Rovers in the 1960 FA Cup final. He then turned himself into a successful entrepreneur, and built the JJB Sports retailer, selling his family stake for £190m in 2007. He bought Wigan Athletic in 1995 and in 2011 he converted into equity £48m he had lent the club. He sold his Wigan-based Pooles Pies for £5m.
