Born Angel Fabian di Maria Hernandez on February 14, 1988 in Rosario, Argentina, he currently plays as a winger or attacking midfielder for the Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid and the national team of Argentina. He began his professional career in football when he made his debut for Rosario Central in 2005. He then signed with the SL Benfica in the Portuguese side and played as a winger.
In 2010, di Maria signed a five-year 25 million Euros contract with Real Madrid along with 11 million Euros in incentives. Since then, he has played almost 111 games with 21 goals. However, his assist and crossing abilities made him the highest paid midfielder in La Liga today.

A year after, he and some of his U-20 teammates were chosen to suit up for the Argentina squad in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His extra-time game-winning goal in the 105th minute on a pass from Lionel Messi helped his team to a 2-1 quarterfinal win over the Netherlands. He also scored the game-winner in the 57th minute of the 1-0 victory against Nigeria to claim their second straight Olympics Gold Medal in the final game of the tournament.
Di Maria was named in the 23-player squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, he scored his first international goal at the new Aviva Stadium in Dublin during the 1-0 friendly win against Ireland. He now has played 44 games on International level with a total of nine goals.
