Perry attended Aiken High School and was considered the sixth fastest runner on the high school football team. He was also an accomplished high diver and could perform a 360-degree dunk. He then went on to attend Clemson University on a full-ride scholarship. He was a member of the national championship team in 1981 and a first-team All-American as a junior in 1983.

William Perry began his professional football career when he was drafted by the Chicago Bears during the first round of the 1985 NFL (National Football League) Draft. He played as a defensive lineman for the Chicago Bears for eight years before he moved to the Philadelphia Eagles and retired unofficially.

The Fridge went to play for the London Monarchs of the World League of American Football (WLAF) and decided to retire official. He may have suffered from health and alcohol issues but moved on to pursue an acting career. He appeared in Windy City Cheat, Wrestlemania 2 and Wrestlemania 22.
