He then went on to attend Clemson University on a full-ride scholarship. He was a member of the national championship team in 1981 and a first-team All-American as a junior in 1983.
William Perry began his professional football career when he was drafted by the Chicago Bears during the first round of the 1985 NFL (National Football League) Draft. He played as a defensive lineman for the Chicago Bears for eight years before he moved to the Philadelphia Eagles and retired unofficially.
