Hailed by one article as "America's first test tube athlete", Todd Marinovich was trained by his father to become a great athlete someday. His father had actually set up a team of advisers who would teach him on every aspect of playing football. As one article says, Todd has never eaten a ding dong, an oreo or a Big Mac. When he goes to birthday parties, he would always bring his own ice cream and cake to stay away from refined white flour and sugar. His father has always wanted him to become an excellent athlete someday, thus, Todd's activities were always monitored even as a child. However, there were reports stating that Todd was involved in marijuana sessions with friends during his high school years.

Todd's football career started in college, when he was taking Fine Arts at the University of Southern California. He became the 24th pick in the NFL Draft in 1991. Todd has had a successful football career, however throughout this success, he had suffered from serious substance abuse for several times. He had been arrested for cocaine possession during college days, thus, he was always required by the NFL to submit to drug tests regularly.

Through the years, Todd Marinovich's career continued to fall apart because of his substance addiction. For several times, he had been arrested for drug possession. Today, he runs an online art gallery which features drawings, sculptures and impressionist-style paintings with sports-related themes.
