After attending the University of Virginia, Tiki Barber was selected by the New York Giants as its second round pick in the 1997 NFL Draft. Throughout his 10-year tenure with the NFL, he only played for the New York Giants.

When his NFL career ended, Tiki Barber decided to pursue a career in broadcasting. He became a correspondent for the Football Night in America/Sunday Night Football and The Today Show. He also hosted  66th Golden Globe Awards together with Nancy O'Dell and Brooke Burke. Later on, he published two books titled Tiki Barber's Pure Hard Workout and Tiki: My Life and the Game Beyond.

In 2011, Tiki Barber expressed his interest in returning to the NFL. Though he noted earlier that his plan of coming back to NFL has nothing to do with money, some reports stated that his comeback is purely driven by his financial needs. Reports say that he is having difficulties in paying his divorce settlements with his former wife. Unfortunately, none of the NFL teams had the interest of taking him back.

Tiki Barber was previously married to Ginny Cha, his wife of eleven years. They had four children. It was in 2010 when news broke out that he left his wife for Traci Lynn Johnson, a 23-year old intern at NBC. Johnson was reported to be pregnant that time. He married Johnson in July 2012.
