Montee Ball, Jr. was born on December 5, 1990 in Wentzville, Missouri. He attended  University of Wisconsin, where he played collegiately from 2009 through 2012. In 2013, he was selected as a second round (58th overall) pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

In 2011, he received the Chicago Tribune Silver Football Award, Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year award, and Archie Griffin Award. He became the Big Ten Running Back of the Year, and was selected as a member of the the First-team All-Big Ten in 2011 and 2012. In addition to being a recipient of Doak Walker Award, Montee Ball Jr. was named as the Big Ten Championship Game MVP.
