Mike Ditka was born Michael Dyczko in Carnegie, Pennsylvania on October 18, 1939. Since 1973, he has been married to his wife Diana Ditka. He has four children named Mark, Matt, Mike III, and Megan Ditka.

From 1958 through 1960, he attended University of Pittsburgh. A year later, he was selected by the Chicago Bears as a first round (fifth overall) pick of the 1961 NFL Draft. He played for the franchise until the 1966 season. He then played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1967 through 1968. And from 1969 until his retirement in 1972, he played for the Dallas Cowboys.

As a professional football player, Mike Ditka has been a five-time choice for Pro Bowl (1961, 1962, 1963,1964, 1965). He was also a three-time Super Bowl champion. In 1986, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Two years later, Ditka was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Along with Tom Flores, Mike Ditka is one of the two persons who have won NFL titles as a head coach, coach, and a player.

After retirement, he started serving as an assistant coach for Dallas Cowboys. He served the position until 1981. From 1982 through 1992, he was the coach for Chicago Bears, and 1997 through 1999, he served as coach for the New Orleans Saints.
