After playing collegiately at the University of Southern California where he received a Heisman trophy award in 2004, Leinart was selected by the Arizona Cardinals as its 10th overall pick in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. With his built, 6'5" (1.96 m) height and  225 pounds (100 kg) weight, he was actually considered as one of the top potentials for the 2006 NFL Draft. However, he was a left-handed thrower with a weak arm. Nonetheless, he became a first round pick. He played with the Cardinals until 2009 and in 2010, he agreed to a one-year contract with the Houston Texans and was released in March 2012. In May 2012, he signed a deal Oakland Raiders.

Matt Leinart was born on May 11, 1983,  in Santa Ana California. Though currently single, Matt Leinart has a son named Cole Cameron Leinart. The court granted him a regular schedule to visit his son.
