He recorded 1,722 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns in just eight regular season games with additional 375 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in two postseason games. He was voted a PrepStar and SuperPrep All-American. He was also voted as the San Francisco East Bay Player of the Year. He was traded to the Seattle Seahawks for a fourth-round pick in 2011 and a fifth-round pick in 2012. He scored his first touchdown on October 17 on a one-yard run against the Chicago Bears.

Lynch came from a family of professional football players. His cousins are wide receiver Robert Jordan, former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Rusell and Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh Johnson. His uncle Lorenzo Lynch had an 11-year career in the NFL.
