Jason Pierre-Paul became active in sports during his high school days at Deerfield Beache High School where he became a part of the school's basketball team for four years. A leg injury during his junior year led him to football.

In college, he joined College of the Canyons and Fort Scott Community College's football teams where he amassed at least 119 tackles, and 5 forced fumbles for both teams. Pierre-Paul then transferred to University of South Florida Bulls where he played 13 games with seven starts and 45 tackles.

He decided to forego his senior year at the university, and entered the NFL Draft in 2010. Pierre-Paul was selected by the New York Giants as the 15th overall pick. During his stint with the team, he led the Giants in a clinch against New England Patriots during the Super Bowl XLVI .
