Simpson and Paul Hornung, Earl Campbell is among the three professional NFL players who have won the Heisman Troph to have also been selected as a first overall draft pick. After attending the University of Texas in Austin where he played college football, Campbell was selected by the Houston Oilers as its first overall pick in the first round of the 1978 NFL Draft. The Houston Oilers immediately offered him a six-year $1.4 million contract. In the same year, he was named as NFL Offensive Player of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year.
