Retired professional football running back Earl Campbell has an estimated net worth of $25 million. Together with O.J. Simpson and Paul Hornung, Earl Campbell is among the three professional NFL players who have won the Heisman Trophy to have also been selected as a first overall draft pick. Campbell is an inductee in the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame.

After attending the University of Texas in Austin where he played college football, Campbell was selected by the Houston Oilers as its first overall pick in the first round of the 1978 NFL Draft. The Houston Oilers immediately offered him a six-year $1.4 million contract. In the same year, he was named as NFL Offensive Player of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year.

In 1984, Campbell was traded to the New Orleans. Some reports claimed that he was traded due to his diminishing athletic skills. In July 1991, he was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Ranked 33rd on the list of 100 Greatest Football Player by the Sporting News, Earl Campbell is considered as one of the best power backs in the history of the National Football League. On the other hand, the NFL.com ranked him as the 55th NFL Player of All Time.
