Carlos Dunlap played for Fort Dorchester Patriots football team. As a senior, he recorded 105 tackles and 24 quarterback sacks. He also participated at the first Offensive-Defensive All-American Bowl.

He received offers from Clemson Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks, Auburn Tigers, and the Tennessee Volunteers, but Dunlap chose to play for the Florida Gators.
