Andy Dalton started his career with Katy High School's football team. In 2005, he started for one season as quarterback and helped the Tigers to reach the state finals against Southlake Carroll. During his stint with the team, he threw for 2877 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.

In college, he committed to play for the Texas Christian University's Horned Frogs. Dalton was a redshirted during his freshman year, and named as the 2008 Poinsettia Bowl MVP.
